Golf Swing Tips So You Can Advance Your Game Score
Posted by sports author in Sports on June 29th, 2009
Golf is one of the most well-liked games in the world today. All about the world people are on the golf course every day. Golfers are very passionate about their game and are always searching to find new golf teaching aids to perfect their game.
Here are some great golf swing tips to help you perfect your game on the course, whether you are hunting to eliminate your golf slice or need help with a golf swing that is flat, you will find these tips useful.
When you play golf, don’t just hit the ball as hard as you can and expect that it will make the ball land near the hole. Unlike cards, this is not chance but correct technique is involved to make it happen.
This may not happen every time because there are things past your control like the wind and any obstruction that lay within the path but you can just imagine how well you can do if the conditions are just perfect.
The first tip to do well when you make a golf swing is to study how to control your body. In this game, how you elevate your arm to the time that you let your club strike the ball is important. It is not only about strength that makes the ball travel far but the recoil effect.
So how do you get this recoil effect? This is completed by not turning your body too much when you start from your right to the left. There are various aids to help you out here like working with a heavier club, getting someone to watch you, practicing in front of the mirror and recording how you swing with a video camera and playing it back.
When you twist from one side to the other, keep your hands relaxed the entire time. If you are unable to do that, you put a strain on your muscle making it hard for you to attain the shot you desire.
To make this work, bear in mind that the arms are an extension of something bigger because the power does not come from here but from your abs and hips which happen to be two are the largest muscles in the body.
Make it a point to always whack the ball right in the center. That way, you are able to divert it to the direction you desire it to go. So you understand where the ball is going, keep your eye on this until you send it flying through the air.
Aside from working on the upper body, don’t stop thinking about to work on your footing. For that to happen, make sure both feet are flat on the ground so you are able to transfer the weight from the right side until it passes a little over your left shoulder.
The golf swing tips mentioned are not hard to do. It just takes a little bit of practice so that you are able to maintain consistency every time it is your turn to putt on the green.

Could Staying In, Be The New Going Out?
Posted by sports author in Non Professional Individual Sports on June 28th, 2009
With the global economic crisis and the smoking ban in all public houses, more and more people are opting to stay in rather than go to the local pub. This isn’t good for the local landlord of these pubs but with the price of alcohol at the local supermarket in comparison to pubs and clubs being around 50 per cent cheaper, is it a wonder that the local pubs are becoming extinct?
In the first year of the smoking ban, the estimated beer sales in the UK had fallen by up to 7per cent. This was according to The British Beer And Pub Association. Also with the constant price rising in alcohol and the economy the way it is, the number of pub closures have been reported to be as many as 4 a day. Since July 1st 2007, the amount of pub closures in England is estimated to be 3656.
To give you an idea of the situation with the smoking ban alone, Neil who is in his 70s and was retired, was a member of a Social Club. He played Snooker on a regular basis and he enjoyed nothing more than a couple of pints and a Cigar whilst playing a game. He played for a number of years until the smoking ban came in. Since the ban, his number of visits to the Social Club had declined until he stopped altogether. This is just one story out of many and as a result of people staying in rather than going to a pub, means more closures which also means the disappearance of pub games.
Entertaining at home is now more and more popular, what with barbeques, movie nights, poker games and a good old fashioned knees up, which are all good fun. However, something is missing, PUB GAMES. Let’s face it, we all miss the pool table, the dart board, oversized connect 4, the juke box, arcade games, Killer anyone? Yes, we all miss the games the pubs are known to have.
We at Table Sports Direct are committed to bringing many of these fine pub sport games to your home. With a good collection of pool tables, arcade games, table football and even a casino bar. So why not bring the pub home and make your next party one for all your friends to remember.

Wimbledon 2009: Analysis: The Men’s Draw

Wimbledon 2009: Analysis: The men’s draw
Wimbledon will be much different from the last 4 edition of this amazing tennis event.
The defending champion and world number 1 Rafael Nadal won’t be there so the classci Federer vs Nadal final won’t happend in 2009.
The shockwaves from Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal from Wimbledon 2009 reverberate throughout the men’s draw. When the draw took place on Friday morning, Nadal’s name was inked at the top as top seed, defending champion and world no.1. By the end of the day, the Spaniard had removed himself from contention.
The loss of Nadal is a blow for the tournament, especially after the manner in which Nadal beat Roger Federer in last year’s classic final. The hole at the top of the men’s draw left by Nadal will be filled by the fifth seed, Juan Martin del Potro.
Del Potro’s place will be taken by the 17th seed James Blake of the USA. The next to be seeded, Nicolas Kiefer moves to line 56 to take Blake’s position as the 33rd seed. Thiago Alves takes Kiefer’s position on line 61 and is a lucky loser.
Andy Murray, the British No.1 and third seed, had been drawn to meet Nadal in the semi-finals. He is now the highest ranked player in the top half of the draw.
Murray opens against the Californian Robert Kendirck, who finished in the top 100 in the world last year for the first time. Kendrick has played at Wimbledon three times, winning one match. In 2006 he served 32 aces and led two sets to love against Nadal in the second round before being beaten.
Murray was a quarter-finalist here last year and a runner-up to Federer in the US Open. This will be his fifth Wimbledon and he comes into the tournament having won the title at Queen’s to become the first British winner for 71 years.
Murray can only conclude that Wimbledon have given him a great opportunity to progress to the later stages. Potentially he could run into last year’s semi-finalist Marat Safin in the last 16 and seventh seed Simon Gilles in the quarter-finals. Andy Roddick is also in Murray’s half of the draw.
There are no questions on the form and fitness of five-time Wimbledon champion Federer: the second seed returns to competition after winning the French Open for the first time which completed his set of Grand Slam trophies.
Federer’s projected semi-final opponent is the Serb Novak Djokovic, who was beaten in the second round last year after being a semi-finalist in 2007.
Federer, who opted to rest instead of playing his traditional warm-up at Halle, will play Yen–Hsun Lu of Taipei in the first round. Lu is playing at Wimbledon for the sixth time and has twice won his first round match.
Also this is a great chance for Roger Federer to take the top spot of the rankings again. Federer lost the world number 1 place in August 2008 to Rafael Nadal after 4 and a half years.
For the British wild cards there are demanding starts. Daniel Evans opens against the twelfth seed Nikolay Davydenko of Russia, Alex Bogdanovic plays the twentieth seed Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, James Ward plays seventh seed Fernando Verdasco of Spain and Josh Goodall plays the Frenchman Michael Llodra.

British And Irish Lions Rugby Squad Selection Has Raised A Few Eyebrows In South Africa.
Posted by sports author in Sports on June 23rd, 2009
South Africa coach Peter de Villiers has expressed his shock that the captains of England, Scotland and Wales have been left out of the British And Irish Lions squad.
Lions coach Ian McGeechan chose a 37-man squad but left out Steve Borthwick, Mike Blair and Ryan Jones.
The one thing that gobsmaked me was that the leaders of three home nations weren’t included in the squad, de Villiers told BBC Radio 5 Live.
The guys that play under those guys have a high regard for them.
He added: Those are the guys that can stand up in
Lions Rugby meetings and try to work out small niggles and things that can evolve on a long trip like this.
De Villiers also believes that the decision to appoint Ireland 2nd Row Paul O’Connell as Lions captain ahead of regular Ireland skipper Brian O’Driscoll could be damaging. Any chance here that they are trying to make the mood in the camp sour?
Brian O’Driscoll was the skipper of the last Lions team, even though he got hurt, and he was the captain of the most successful Six Nations team this year. That’s a second big revelation.
Additionally, De Villiers was sceptical of McGeechan’s choice to pack his team with physically imposing players who could contend with the formidable Springboks.
If McGeechan wants to sit down and try to match the Boks then I think that is the mistaken , he said.
If he wants to say ‘this is our strong point, this is how we want to play the game, these are the people who can do the job for me’ then I can justify any selection he has made.
But I will not sit down and say ‘they are going to do this, so We should do this’. We am more focused on what I want to do and I will find the genius and the players to do the task for us.
The tour officially began on 30 May with a game against a Highveld XV with the British Lions Tour Tests against the Springboks starting on 20 June.
Irish Star Number 8, Jamie Heaslip prepared for his second match with the British & Irish Lions Rugby Team against the Sharks on Wednesday night by swimming with the real McCoy. The Leinster and Ireland No 8 went snorkling with metre and a half long sharks in Durban at the weekend to get a taste of things to come later on this week. And having enjoyed his first encounter of swimming with the ocean’s most deadly creatures, he is now planning on getting up close and personal with some Great Whites when the tour moves on to Cape Town.
“Shane Horgan told me before I went on tour that there would be plenty of chances to do different things and that I should take them all,” said Heaslip. “I jumped at the chance to go swimming with some sharks when we arrived in Durban and it was great. You get a few seals in Irish waters, but certainly not sharks.
“We went down in a cage to begin with and then we were able to swim alongside them. The guides said they were safe, but they told us not to get too close. “Hopefully, in Cape Town we will be able to get into the cage and mix with some Great Whites. That would be unbelievable.”
Before then, though, Heaslip got to run the gauntlet of South African rugby’s own Sharks team. It was his second start on tour and another good game has pushed him further ahead of Wales’ Andy Powell for the No 8 spot in the Test team.
“Springbok rugby is very strength driven and they like to kick the ball. But they are big boys, they run hard and they are very uncompromising at the breakdown,” he added.
“We have to be more competitive at the breakdown because if we can get quick ball for our backs they can do some real harm.”
The South African Springboks have long been known as one of the most physical – some would say filthy – teams in international rugby. There certainly have been some unpleasant incidents concerning South African teams over the years, none more so than the 1974 Lions tour when the British And Irish Lions famously employed their “99 call” to combat the Springboks’ off-the-ball tactics.
In recent years however, the International Rugby Board has done a good job of cleaning up rugby, assisted by advances in video know-how, the sin bin, and the use of citing commissioners to mete out punishment for foul play after the match. Stuff still happens – rugby is a confrontational contact sport after all – but rarely on the scale seen here.
Teams and players are normally a lot more circumspect these days – England’s 2002 demolition of the Springboks at Twickenham clearly demonstrated the result of a red card early in a match. England would in all probability have won that match anyway, but certainly not by the record score they achieved if the Boks had not had to play the majority of the match with 14 men.
Data suggests that even having a player receive a yellow card and being sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes usually results in points against his team, often from the accompanying penalty, but also from the physical advantage it gives the opposition. More often than not the team with 14 men concede a try in the ten minute period. And even if points aren’t scored within the period of the suspension, it’s likely that the extra exertion expended by the rest of the team to cover for the missing player takes a toll later on in the match.
But while we will hopefully not see any punching or blatant foul play during the 2009 British Lions tour, physical dominance of the opposition is still a fundamental of the game, and we should expect no quarter to be asked or given by either side. In recent years the Springboks have not often strayed too far from their customary pattern of play, based on a solid foundation of forward play to get over the advantage line and creating space out wide for their classy backs. When they have experimented with playing a more expansive game, they have invariably come unstuck.
It remains to be seen what tactics the British Lions of 2009 will utilize, but they will need to at least match the Springboks in the scrums, line outs and at the breakdown if they are to control the play. Indeed, the legendary Willie John McBride (captain of the victorious 1974 Lions), has recently gone on record stating that he believes the scrum holds the secret to success for the 2009 Lions Rugby Team.
Whatever the strategy, expect a brutal physical confrontation, with the team that gains the upper hand standing a good chance of victory in the British Lions Tour Test series.
