Most Common Mountain Biking Injuries And How To Avoid Them

Mountain Biking and indeed cycling in general is one of the most popular sports in the world. In can be used both as part of a fitness regime, commuting to work, in competitive sports, or just as a bit of fun. However, those who are keen cyclists are probably aware that if precautions aren’t taken, there are a number of repetitive-strain injuries that can occur from cycling, especially mountain biking. Here we examine the causes and preventive measures for 3 of the most common cycling-related injuries.

Wrist Injury. A great deal of the force that is transmitted to the bike when you go over bumps travels up through the wrists. What’s more, as your upper body weight is usually pushing down on your wrists, they can often be put under a lot of strain and become inflamed or injured.Having quality suspension on the front forks of the bike will reduce a lot of the pressure, or if you cannot have suspension, make sure the forks have shock absorbing qualities like you find on the Trek Madone

Pain In The Backside. This is one of the most common complaints and is basically a result of repetitive pressure on the gluteus maximus (backside) muscle and surrounding sensitive areas. It can actually become quite serious if left untreated and if you want ensure that you can still have children, it’s worth taking precautions. If you are going to buy a new saddle it is well worth testing it out extensively and giving it a few miles worth of use, as sometimes saddles can start off comfortable, but cause problems after a while. You can also purchase special cycle clothing such as padded shorts which act to dampen the effect of harmful pressure.

Knee Problems. Another common complaint among riders is knee injuries, inflammation and general soreness. Your riding position and bike set up does influence the amount of strain on the knees, but more often than not the quality of the bike contributes quite a lot. Try making sure all your bike components have shock-absorbing qualities, such as Pinarello which reduce the amount of force transferred through the knee joint.

NFL As We Head Training Camp

Vikings Tickets.

Onan’s Opinion

We’ll begin in Minnesota, where Coach Mike Tice was recently leveled with a $100,000 fine for scalping his Super Bowl tickets. Well, can you really blame the guy? Tice is the lowest paid coach in the league at around $1 Million a year. I won’t even get into the “everybody does it” excuse. But, it would be “interesting” to see who else would’ve been exposed if Tice lost his job over this. The bigger issue with Tice will come on the field; he will be fired if this team goes into the tank in the second half of the season once again. If the Vikings didn’t defeat Green Bay in the Playoffs last season, he may have well been gone.

As I reported earlier, those Terrell Owens for Jerry Porter trade rumors are just that, rumors. First off, the move would put Oakland in “salary cap hell”. Porter just signed a huge extension. And, yes, Owens looked healthy when he returned for the Eagles’ Super Bowl loss, but there are still uncertainties about T.O.’s ankle. He hasn’t been on the field because of his holdout to show if he’s 100 % or not. And even Al Davis wouldn’t want to mix oil and water (Owens and Randy Moss), would he?

As the preseason approaches, one of the intriqing things to keep an eye on is Ben Rothlisberger. Which Quarterback should we expect to this year? Will it be an efficient second year man who guides the team like an all pro, or could he look as he did in the playoffs, a rookie who can’t read defenses? Plaxico Burress’ departure won’t help matters any, either.

In Mariucci’s two seasons with the Lions they have gone 11-21 straight up and 17-15 ATS which means although slowly there has been improvement, the Lions selected three Pac-10 players with their top three choices by drafting WR Mike Williams out of USC with their top selection which makes this the third straight draft that a WR was chosen with the Lions first overall pick, with the Lions second pick they chose DT Shaun Cody out of USC and with their third choice they picked CB Stanley Wilson out of Stanford.

The Lions got a possible steal in the fifth round with QB Dan Orlovsky out of Connecticut, Detroit was also very active in the free agent wars by picking up QB Jeff Garcia who used to play for Mariucci in San Francisco and thus knows this offense very well, if QB Joey Harrington continues to under perform expect to see a switch to Garcia. The additions of problem child WR Kevin Johnson and TE Marcus Pollard will bring veteran leadership to the offense.

Speaking of young QB’s , this may be the coming out parties for the Texans David Carr and the Bengals Carson Palmer. Both guys have some nice pieces around them on offense, but their postseason aspirations rest on their respective defenses.

If the Packers struggle this season, you can blame one person, Drew Rosenhaus. It would be a real shame if Brett Favre’s career has to close out this way. Rosenhaus represents Javon Walker, who has already participated in a spitting match with management. And now Grady Jackson is unhappy. How long before Najeh Davenport (who also wants a new deal, but isn’t holding out), becomes discontented because he doesn’t get enough touches playing behind Ahman Green? Maybe Favre’s biggest fan, John Madden, will step in and put a foot in Rosenhaus’ butt.

What Are The 4 Vital Factors That Involve Your Golf Swing

Do you understand the 4 vital factors that influence your golf swing? Knowing what they are along with interpeting them will be able to aid you regulate your swing to start hitting straight and true. As a result improving your golf swing.

In the game of golf, no two people ever have the identical golf swing. Each person has their own personal body by means of its personal strengths, flexiblity and range of motion. The method one person swings a golf club possibly will not work for another individual, even if they are close to in body types. Each golfer has to attain the playing method that fits them to help them produce the results that they require. Players that distinguish what is going to happen to the ball when they hit it, and what factors affect that instant of impact will successfully use their body to generate the reliable powerful golf swing that they would like to hit longer drives.

One item that will help all golfers create direct and positive improvements on their game is an understanding of the factors that affect the golf ball at the moment of impact by the golf club. Knowing what these factors are and how they affect the ball can enable you to understand what happens at the second of impact and interpret the golf balls flight. When you know what occurs and why, you can then make minute adjustments to your swing and afterward catch sight of the effects on the next shot. The flight of the golf ball can tell you whether you were right in your personal assessment and you made a good change towards a better golf swing. If you made a change that made the shot worse than before, all you must have to do is undo that adjustment to your swing.

The split second of impact (ideally the golf club sweet spot hitting the ball) is a blend of four factors that can eventually decide what direction and how far the ball will travel. The golf ball can respond to these factors regardless of how they come about. The primary important issue that affects your golf swing is the angle of the clubface at the second of impacting the ball. The position of the clubface at the split second of impact is the most valuable factor influencing the initial direction and the spin of the ball. The clubface must point in the direction of the target you’ve selected farther down the course. If the clubface is straight and perpendicular and at correctat a 90 degree angle to the golf ball at the split second of impact, it will travel directly down the course with no spin.

The second reason at the split second of impact is the angle of the clubhead with relation to the golf ball. There is the horizontal angle of impact and perpendicular angle of impact, both of which are combined to establish the initial direction of the ball and the elevation of the golf balls flight path. The horizontal angle of impact determines the initial direction that the ball will travel. The vertical angle of impact can determine how high the ball will fly. Too low or too high and you lose distance in your shot.

Thirdly, the clubface must hit the ball on the sweet spot. The sweet spot is the area on the face of the golf club that will transport the power of your golf swing to the golf ball. Transferring this power well will maximize its potential and carry the ball far and straight down the course (as long as the angle of the clubface and the club head at the instant of impact are decent).

Lastly, the fourth factor that is essential at the second of impact is the the club head. The speed of your golf swing will resolve how much power you transport to the golf ball and ultimately how far it will go when you hit it on the sweet spot. The speed or power of the golf swing is not reliant on muscles only. Other factors such as body flexibility and range of movement influence how a golfer employs those muscles in creating a fluid smooth swing.

The golf swing is not just picking up a golf club and trying to blow away the ball down the course. It is a blend of many factors that if you can interpret, you will influence by making adjustments to your swing. Knowing what causes the golf ball to travel as it does can enable you to improve your golf swing and gain distance and accuracy on your shots. However, knowing the cause that produces an result, and affecting that cause to create the desired result are two different things, both of which will be learned over time and with practice. We’ll even show you how to cure your golf slice.

Toronto Maple Leafs Getting Better In The Offseason

The Toronto Maple Leafs havent made the biggest splashes this offseason in terms of free agency, the draft and trades but they have been quietly (for them) making progress.

There has been spirited debate over whether teams still need enforcers to take penalties, fight and throw checks in the new NHL with the more stringent rules and penalty calls. Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke has left no doubt as to his view on the issue is. He recently signed free agent enforcer Colton Orr who scored a goal, four assists with 193 penalty minutes over 82 games with The Rangers last year. Don’t plan on Orr to put up major points or log a lot of ice time for the Leafs next season but he should add an element of grit and toughness to the Leafs team.

They have also stocked up on tough defencemen by signing free agent defencemen Mike Komisarik who last year logged an average of 20:37 of ice time a night as well as leading The Canadians in blocked shots and penalty minutes. He is a former first round 7th overall draft pick and was assistant captain for Montreal last year. The also traded for tough guy Garnet Exelby from the Thrashers, the hard hitting defenceman lead the Thrashers in hits last year with 151. Then the Leafs signed Francois Beauchemin from Anaheim to a 3 year contract. He is a solid defender who reportedly has a very hard slapshot. Beauchemin won the stanley cup with the Ducks in 2007.

Finished toughening up and re-building their defence the leafs looked to the goalie position, signing free agent goaltender Jonas Gustavsson who dominated the Sweedish Elite League last year and was considered by many to be the best goalie in the world not playing the NHL. With his size, athleticism and skill he will start the season in the backup role but could earn the starting role if he plays well and Toskala continues to struggle. There were several teams trying to sign the Sweedish netminder and the leafs manage to land him. He is sure to be a fan favorite in Toronto, they are printing the Gustavsson Jerseys already.

This doesn’t mean the leafs are done though, their forwards still need a lot of help, Jason Blake the only one really considered a top six forward. All these signings have also left them with a large amount of defencemen with limited positions available. It is widely rumored that Brian Burke is planning on trading one of his defencemen for help on forward.

The Leafs aren’t a Stanley Cup favorite just yet but there have been a lot of positive changes so far this offseason and it is not over yet. Look for a tougher, stronger and more defensively sound Leafs team to take to the ice next season.
